Before you start screaming ‘Yes!’ repeatedly at the top of your lungs, you need to know some things.

Entertainment Weekly transcribed the Twilight audio commentaries where director Catherine Hardwicke gives an assessment of Rob’s driving skills during the Port Angeles sequence where Edward Cullen slams into the scene with his Volvo in order to save Bella from the “bad guys.”

“I like the way the car roars in. Obviously, that wasn’t [Rob] driving, or those people would all be dead.

An exaggeration? Maybe not. There’s the story from GQ staff writer Alex Pappademas on how Rob drove blind for several long seconds on the LA streets during a car ride that was supposed to bring the writer back to his hotel.

Before we’ve gone fifty feet, the windshield steams up and Pattinson can’t see a damn thing. He hasn’t driven the car on a cold day before, and he doesn’t know where the defogger button is.

He turns on the heat—“That’s supposed to do something, right?”—and then merges into traffic, still blind, cursing his way into the left lane. “I think I’m better off on Melrose, because there aren’t any pedestrian crossings,” he says. “You’re going to regret accepting this lift.

Then he hits another button. Success. The windshield starts to clear and at last Pattinson can see where he’s going.

And, Rob himself is a self-confessed “lousy driver” as he tells it to InStyle Germany Magazine.

“I’m a lousy driver and always got problems with my ready for the scrap heap-BMW, 1989 model. You can’t make a state with me.”

Still going to hop into the car with Rob behind the wheel? (Okay, let’s not quibble over the fact that he actually takes cabs in Vancouver while he’s shooting for New Moon.) ;-)
