Why Was Kristen Stewart Absent from the 2009 Oscars

Kristen Stewart at the Twilight Rome Film Festival Premiere

I cannot fathom any logical reason why Kristen Stewart was not the co-presenter of Robert Pattinson at the 2009 Oscars for the Romance in 2008 sequence, a montage that was obviously concocted in order to include non-Oscar nominees but blockbuster hits such as Twilight, High School Musical and Mamma Mia in the prestigious show.

Because of Work? It cannot be because of work, because, like Rob, Kristen is scheduled to shoot New Moon, and he made it to the Oscars. Besides, even if there is some pre-production on K-11 or the Joan Jett bio pic, all that can be set aside easily in the face of the most important film industry related event of the year. (Actually, the Oscars is still part of work.)

And, no producer in his right mind will stop his actor from appearing at the Oscars that, approximately, a BILLION movie-interested people will watch, which, leaves us to speculate that it was Kristen’s personal decision not to be a presenter.

Because of Stage Fright? If Kristen is unnerved with the thought of presenting before a billion people, she can just request to be an audience member, and, not go onstage at all. I’m sure the Oscar organizers will accede to her wishes.

Because of Some Personal Belief? It can be Kristen believes that going to the Oscars will be contrary to some personal belief. This has been done in the past by other actors, but, it’s hard to think of a reason why Kristen would have a mindset against going to the Oscars, since she basically grew up in the film industry and understands its ins and outs. The Oscars is the pinnacle of all the award giving bodies in Hollywood and all over the world.

(Update: It was indeed for a personal reason. According to Access Hollywood, Kristen wants to present “When it’s a great movie, not just one that makes a lot of money.” Thanks, Archibella!

Although I understand her reason and applaud her for it, I think Kristen should take a look at the bigger picture, and see how her presence could have helped an ailing industry that’s being affected by recession.

Furthermore, she could have aided in the “passing of the torch” efforts of the Oscar organizers, for, although she was most probably meant to present the romance montage, which might seem like fluff, the presenter offer was an invitation to her and her generation of actors to become even more deeply and actively involved in the film industry.

Oh well, maybe Kristen will mellow in the future. Anything can happen over time. Just take a look at Sean Penn at the 2009 Oscars, who admits in his acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Leading Role, “I do know how hard I make it to appreciate me often.” Sean Penn has also been absent from past Oscar shows for personal reasons.)

Because of Rob? If we leave logical reasons at the door, then that only leaves illogical reasons. Illogical, yet, logical. And all having to do with Rob. ;-)

Kristen Stewart, together with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, are scheduled to go to the Twilight premiere in Japan on 27 February 2009, with shooting for New Moon commencing right after.

I really don’t understand either.I was sure that they will be together. It’s very weird. And i do not think Kristen would refuse to go on the stage with Robert – no matter the reason.
It is possible she was not invited. Maybe they wanted to appeal to the female target and if Robert was making goo-goo eyes at Kristen … you know
I do not know. It would have been a priceless moment.

well whatever it is, i think she needs to be humble about it i mean she is an actress so at least do it for your fans. And if you dont like tw may be she should of thought it twice before doing the film, you should always be proud of your work no matter what.

Hee, hee, hee. You are SUCH a die-hard romantic.

Not that that’s a bad thing.

You know, I was totally shaking my head that Kristen Stewart did not appear at the Oscars (and for the most part, my head was nodding with your reasoning in this post before archibella shared the Access Hollywood article, because I am not totally convinced Stewart feels more than friendship for Pattinson and vice-versa).

But it makes sense–I understand her reasoning that she doesn’t want to appear and/or cave in to overexposure and commercialization over a film that isn’t of the same type of critical slant as she is used to. As soon as I read the reason for why she didn’t appear, I was a bit taken-aback (that was like the LAST reason I would have thought of), but then I got it.

But I still think a chunk of her non-appearance can be chalked up to shyness and past hurts based on how she was treated. She has an acerbic kind of personality, and it’s going to get in the way time and again if she can’t work her way past it during those (hum-drum, tiresome promotion interviews).

I admire her moxie and her acting skills, but really…she should work her way past this. I would give my left boob to have the privileges and talent and exposure she does. Part of being an overpaid celebrity, with all the extras that come with being a celeb, is learning how to deal with the cons.

(Because I dare any celebrity to tell us that the cons outweigh the pros.)

In her place, I would have gone to the Oscars. I would have hated it, my knees would have been knocking and I would have had muck mouth to the nth degree, but I would have GONE.

But that’s me. Alas, I know nothing about standing in Stewart’s shoes…

As I wrote, I think she will mellow out eventually and learn to be less “acerbic,” which she has been doing in her Twilight European leg and Sundance interviews.

And, like you said, just like other celebrities, she has to find for herself the balance on how to deal with the fame and its trappings.

Has anyone thought both Taylor and R.Pattz are both extremely attractive guys, her BF is jealous. Kristen does spend alot of time with the cast. It would be somewhat reasonable for him to want to be with her because hmm….they’re in LOVE. i do <3 luvv twild give secrtly own 2 copies. i have 5 twilight t-shirts and a locket i always were. it has edwards face in it. hee hee. who’s obsessesed. and i too would give my lefy boob to be part of it. ;)

I think she wasn’t invited and besides she’s always busy going out with her boyfriend. She was probably invited but refuse to go because her boyfriend wasn’t invited to the oscars. Kristen should realized that when you are promoting a movie it should be a package deal between an actor and actresses involve, when promoting their movies she should atleast put her personal life on the side in respect to her co workers. we all know she has a boyfriend but we are not really interested about it we are more interested about the movie.
