Water for Elephants Driven by Actors and Director
As I went into the Robinsons Metro East Mall here in the Philippines, I was surprised to see that Water for Elephants is still showing, when “artsy drama” films rarely survive more than a week here. A quick check for the week ending 15 May 2011 showed that Water for Elephants has already accumulated almost US$86M in worldwide receipts. Although there are numerous reasons for its success, I’d like to cite two factors:
Director Francis Lawrence Thankfully, unlike the horrendously-done Remember Me, Water for Elephants was a finely crafted, beautifully shot film that showcased Robert Pattinson, yet remained an ensemble film.
Supportive Fans This is a movie that could have easily languished on the shelf, or, even if released, may not have earned enough for its producers. So, whether you’re a fan of the book, or one or more of its stars, Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz, each fan who supported the film must be credited with the film’s phenomenal success.

That is so true. The story’s direction and fans were the reasons.
Unlike Remember Me, I couldn’t bring myself to “hate” the leading actress, Reese, in Water For Elephants.
So, cheers to us!
