Twilight TV Series to Premiere on Philippine ABS-CBN Network in 2009

Frankly, I am shocked that undue care has not been exercised in protecting the Twilight franchise. Ordinarily, the interests of any artistic endeavor are protected, geographically and / or otherwise, by not allowing any other production to be based on the same piece of artistic work.

Thus, the announcement that a Twilight TV series has been greenlighted by, presumably, Stephenie Meyer and company, is surprising, to say the least.

There is no doubt that a TV series is an option, but, it should be reserved for the future — the far far future when the fourth or fifth movie — Breaking Dawn — is winding down. I think a page from the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings franchises should serve as excellent examples regarding effective marketing strategies, which, has included, the exclusivity of the beloved series to the literary and film mediums.

Not that ABS-CBN is incapable, but, a more global and far-reaching vision should be employed in the business spurt of the Twilight franchise. For now, the official announcement on the ABS-CBN website has been suddenly restricted with the note — “You are not authorized to access this page.”

I sincerely hope that this premature decision can still be averted. (Update: ABS-CBN has denied the Twilight project despite its announcement on its web site.)
