Twilight Director Catherine Hardwicke Devastated by New Moon Exit

(From L) Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Catherine Hardwicke at the Twilight Rome Film Festival Premiere

As the Twilight community had already guessed, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is devastated with not being able to direct the sequel of Twilight — New Moon.

Catherine Hardwicke discloses to Entertainment Weekly “that although she was “devastated” not [to] be directing New Moon—“I really did feel a strong connection to Stephenie and the actors” —she simply couldn’t do it under the terms Summit set forth, with a limited budget and strict timetable.”

New Moon is scheduled to open one year after Twilight’s record-breaking release — 20 November 2009. Chris Weitz, director of American Pie and Golden Compass, has been hired by Summit Entertainment to be the director of New Moon. Shooting is scheduled to begin on March 2009 in Vancouver Canada, before proceeding to Volterra Italy in May.

One thing that the Twilight community will always be thankful for is the decision by Catherine Hardwicke to cast Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Or, should it be thank you for casting Kristen Stewart, who, in turn, “cast” Robert Pattinson? ;-)

Thank you! Muchas gracias! Danke! Merci! Grazie! Maraming salamat! OXOXOX

Best of wishes to your new endeavors!
