A Fictitious Tale That Chronicles the Thirst of Robert Pattinson aka Edward Cullen for Kristen Stewart aka Bella Swan

I normally don’t make any New Year’s resolutions, but, the year 2009 was different. For my own survival, I had to.

I had been in London for the holidays, recovering from the madness of Twilight.

Surrounded by my family and mates, it gave me the opportunity to go back to an even keel, to come to grips with my own emotions, and how I was going to survive the next three to four years shooting and doing the publicity for the Twilight saga.

Giving up the film Parts Per Billion gave me even more time to reflect on how I was going to deal with my personal feelings for Kristen. Being with her is clearly out, since she is committed to her boyfriend despite all my attempts to win her over, but, I can’t let her decision affect my performance as an actor. That would be unprofessional.

I had decided that my mantras for 2009 and beyond will be — “Professionalism” and “Balance.”

There are certain rules to follow, the foremost of which is I must avoid her without looking as if I’m avoiding her. People must not be able to see any radical change in my behavior. I should look amiable and professional.

Balance is the key.

Look straight ahead. Avoid looking at her, but, I must make sure that I glance at her often enough. If I do look at her, it should be with congeniality, and, if possible, couple the look with a smile or a laugh.

I am known for my quips, so I should continue that. I should poke fun at myself or something for a laugh. However, unless necessary, I should avoid talking to Kristen, except to make the occasional serious or humorous comment or observation, so that people will not think I am avoiding her.

If she does talk to me, I will turn or lower my head attentively. I had been raised to be polite, and, anyway, my mum would have a fit if I did otherwise. Balance, I chanted.

Avoid being with her for any length of time, but, make sure that there is a logical reason behind it so there will be no questions.

Alright, I was ready mentally and psychologically. However, my preparations had an anticlimactic resonance to it as I learned that Kristen was not going to present with me at the Oscars.

Nevertheless, from the Oscars in LA, I had persuaded my manager and talent agent to fly immediately to Tokyo Japan for the Twilight premiere, so Kristen and I don’t have to be together for hours on end while we travel to the other side of the world.

I can always chalk it up to not wanting to sleep for a few hours, only to get up again for an early flight. So from the after-Oscar round of parties, it was straight to the airport.

The decision also had proved to be fortuitous, for it gave me the opportunity to chat with the chaps from the Australia film, actor Hugh Jackman and director Baz Luhrmann, who were flying to Tokyo for the film premiere. There was also John Palermo, the producer of Hugh’s opening number at the 2009 Oscars.

Although I had met the gentlemen during the rehearsals and then again at the main event, the flight gave us the opportunity to have a decent conversation.

When we arrived in Tokyo, we had exchanged numbers, said our farewells, and then I took the opportunity to catch up on my sleep.

I knew Kristen and Taylor were arriving the next day, so I made sure to be out of the hotel when they did. Besides, it was the excellent time to discreetly go around the fascinating city of Tokyo after a couple of TV appearances and interviews.

Kristen Stewart Arrival in Tokyo -- 25 Feb 2009

I proudly noted that I was able to follow my resolutions when I finally met up with Kristen and Taylor for breakfast before we were separated for individual interviews. I was also grateful that Taylor was with us so there will be less uncomfortable moments, and, it would give them the opportunity to bond since New Moon is, essentially, their movie.

Of course, the three of us had to spend the afternoon prior to the premiere with our Japanese interpreters so that we could go over the arrangements for the three Twilight events on 27 February 2009, starting with the press conference, followed by the red carpet appearances before the premiere and then the fan meeting.

And then the night brought a pleasant surprise in the form of an unexpected invitation from Hugh and Baz to join them in an evening of “carousing” in a karaoke bar. I immediately accepted the chance to excuse myself as soon as possible. In an undertone, I informed my manager and agent where I was headed off to.

As I unwound with bottles of beer and good-natured singing with the Australia company who was in a jubilant mood after their successful premiere and the news that the film has passed the $200M mark, I checked my mobile phone and saw I had a text message from Kristen.

My heart stopped for a moment before it started beating in a hard rhythm that pounded against my chest.

As I read the innocuous demanding message that read, ‘wru,’ I was put in a quandary. Of course, I should tell her where I was, for it’s not my nature to lie, however, my answer would put me in the uncomfortable position of not being able to extend an invitation for it would not be proper to do so, since, it is, basically, not my party.

So, I casually mentioned to Hugh, Baz and John that my co-stars from Twilight were at the hotel. Before I could make a request, Hugh expansively told me to go ahead and invite them to the karaoke bar.

I replied to Kristen’s query regarding my whereabouts, and passed on Hugh’s invitation to her and Taylor. My breath caught in my throat when she instantaneously replied that they’re preparing and would be on their way.

Professionalism. Balance. And then I laughed at myself. I can just look at this as advance practice for tomorrow’s ordeal. I shrugged and decided to enjoy myself.

I plunged enthusiastically into an ABBA medley with Hugh. As we reached the ending bars of Dancing Queen, I caught sight of Kristen and Taylor watching us.

I motioned them over, introduced them to the Australia group and gave Kristen the song list and casually told her to be the one to choose. Of course, we have to sing together. It was expected. Professionalism. Balance.

After I sang a soulful David Bowie number with Baz, I turned to Kristen with raised eyebrows and a half-smile, asking silently what her choice was. I mentally cursed when I saw the song she was pointing to on the list. It was Elton John’s Your Song.

With none of my turmoil showing, I offered my hand to her, then gave her a mike. I started the duet, and made sure to keep it light with a nonchalant smile on my lips. Professionalism. Balance.

It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide
I don’t have much money but boy if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live

I reined in the piercing ache that the words brought, careful not to let my voice betray my surging sentiments.

Huskily, Kristen followed my cue, singing more emotionally than I did. I nodded my head in time to the song’s rhythm, and pretended to be totally engrossed with the lyrics on the screen.

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one’s for you

As we reached the chorus, I turned my head once in a while to smile at her as we sang together.

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

At the end, I laughed in a self-deprecating manner and said loudly, “Good thing it’s in my range!”

Gallantly, I led Kristen back to her seat and asked what she wanted to drink. I called the waiter over and gave him the order. And then, I didn’t have to create a story to put some distance between us, because, thankfully, Baz called me over to the other end of the table. I made my excuses and strode away.

Please be reminded that this is “A Fictitious Tale That Chronicles the Thirst of Robert Pattinson aka Edward Cullen for Kristen Stewart aka Bella Swan.”

This diary entry is based on my theories, which I stated in an earlier post about Rob and Kristen’s Karaoke Bar stint.

1. Robert Pattinson, being the affable chap that he is, was well liked by Australia director Baz Luhrmann and actor Hugh Jackman, so much so that they invited him (just Rob) to a karaoke celebration of their film premiere in Tokyo Japan and the fact that Australia broke the $200 million mark.

2. Since they were not able to meet the Australia entourage, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were not invited personally by Baz Luhrmann and Hugh Jackman to join the party.

3. Somehow, during the night, Kristen and Taylor’s names came up. A possibility that I brought up with a friend was Kristen texted Rob to make an “innocuous” inquiry as to his whereabouts.

4. Rob, the gentleman that he is, probably asked Baz and Hugh if his Twilight co-stars can join the celebration, and that is why Kristen and Taylor only arrived several hours after the karaoke party started.

5. As to stories that the two were acting sweet and very close, it’s probably those moments again when Kristen would make a remark and Rob would lean in to hear her better, and he would laugh at something she would say while she, unknowingly, looks adoringly at him.

First of all, I LUUURRRVVVEEEE your blog. I check on it almost daily, several times a day to see if you have new posts =)

You’re right. He is disengaging from Kristen .. He’s barely hanging out with her on the set! I’m sad about that fact but I really can’t blame the guy. He’s lucky that he doesn’t need to be on the set as often in New Moon. I’m really hoping this “separation” will jolt her!! I really do.

Thanks Rain88ph! Although I do try to post twice a day, my schedule sometimes doesn’t allow it, but, thanks so much for visiting several times daily! :-)

I really like your theories on Rob and Kris.It is sad to know that he is distanting from Kristen on set. But I also hope that something will just bring them closer again. To have chemistry and compatibility like that and waste it just not right.

I have no idea why the almost news told us about Kristen didn’t dating Robert and still love with her Mr.origano.BUT I think they can’t hide, can’t pretend some natural chemistry in many plublic places. (Oh I just the one who absolutely believe in Atwilightkiss!)

This is awesome. Your use of the creative language is wonderful…and secretly, I love the idea of Robert and Kristen. (it’ll probably never happen and that’s okay) Plus, I love how this is from the guy’s point of view. Many people are always asking Kristen about how it felt to be kissed by Robert…someone should ask Robert how it felt to kiss Kristen. Someone should. Again, this is pretty darn awesome!
