Before Robert Pattinson came along, The Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer had another Brit in mind.
Prior to the role of Edward being cast for the 2008 Twilight film, Meyer opined that, although Edward was “Indisputably the most difficult character to cast, [he] is also the one that I’m most passionately decided upon. The only actor I’ve ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen is….(drumroll)….Henry Cavill.”
When the film was optioned by Summit Entertainment in July 2007, Meyer stated that; “The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward,” as Cavill was by then 24 years old, and thus too old to realistically fill the role.
Currently, Henry Cavill is enjoying his stint in the HBO series Tudors, and, like Rob, happens to share a spot of troubled period when he considered giving up acting.
The chiseled 26-year-old Tudors star contemplated joining the military during his string of bad luck, which included narrowly missing being cast as Superman. Then Batman. Then James Bond. He even missed Twilight, despite the endorsement of author Stephenie Meyer.
“I was almost to the point of giving up,” Henry recalls.
Why am I writing about this? Because I only found out about Henry Cavill yesterday, 13 May 2009, latecomer that I am to the Twilight bandwagon! LOL

Henry Cavill is really attractive, but to tell the truth, I can’t imagine him playing Edward. OK, maybe ’cause I like Rob as Edward, but… I don’t know. Maybe he is too old, and… and maybe there is something in Rob’s personality that’s not in Henry’s. I can not explain it, it’s only a feeling.

Err… If he played Edward’s Role, he would break my imagination of Edward. He didn’t fit for the role. Robert is the best actor for Edward’s Roll!
And you know what? I read on Myspace about months ago that before kristen stewart, a woman who would play Bella was Danielle Panabaker.
I’m sure if henry would play edward and Danielle would play bella, we wouldn’t see ‘chemistry’ between them.
No robert+ no kristen= no Twilight madness and No Robsten

I think it was KStew who basically chose RPAttzz 2 be her partner in Twilight.I’ve watched all of their interviews in you tube and sorry- i can’t recall the specific interview where this issue was addressed.
I remember KStew saying in that interview when asked about casting RPAttz- “It has to go to this guy(RPAttz)because he is not perfect……”
I’ve also read in one magazine where Cathrine Hardwick,the director of twilight was quoted saying”Kristen Stewart might have strangled me if Robert PAttinson did not get the role.”
The producers of the show were reportedly concerned when they came to know of RPAttz getting the role of Edward.They asked Harwick and I quote”Are you sure you can make this guy handsome?”
I guess i have 2 go back again to you tube to get the specific interviews about these things if and when i have time. Girl! This has taken almost two months of my life already.But at least,I’m getting excited with what’s happening to them at present. hayyyy….giggle,giggle.

I heard about Henry but I don’t care because I don’t think he could have played Edward as well as Rob played Edward. Henry is rather good-looking too but other than that, I have no clue. If Henry played Edward, I probably wouldn’t have watched Twilight. Robert was the only reason I watched Twilight(not really a fan of the movie, I like the books better). But I think Catherine Hardwicke is cool and she did a great job in the casting.
BTW don’t you all think Robert has “otherwordly” qualities to him?

Yeah. Maybe. Give him some red highlights and put a look of torment in his eyes, and maybe-ish.
I’m still happy with our Robert, though. A big part of the reason why Rob does so well in his role as Edward is due to Kristen’s Bella. Together, they they have that elusive “it”.

yes! i think henry will be perfect for the role. too bad he is old enough to play edward. sniff. sniff. a little enhancement will do the trick. i dunno, a part of me really thinks that edward is an impossible character and that nobody is good enough to act him on the big screen.

Hi Lorna I just have a question please prove me wrong are they really thinking of changing edward I just heard through the grape vine just wanna know if that was true or fiction? I have googled and I cant find anything to support that theory but apparently its a rumour I just dont think it will be the same if robert is not Edward

Reneesme, Rob is under contract till Eclipse, like Kristen. No one in their right mind will replace Rob, since he is the one fueling the Twilight mania, with the help of his co-stars, of course.

I think he would have been better than Pattinson he is a bit old but better than Pattinson though.And if you look past the tiny teens who are fans of the movie. I think you would find that not a lot of people like him(Rob Pattinson)But what can one do………
