The Final Four Actors to Audition for Edward Cullen
The Search for the Brit Who Can Play Edward Cullen During one of his interviews, Robert Pattinson, otherwise known as Edward Cullen of The Twilight Saga, makes an observation.
“It’s weird because there were a lot of British people up for this part. The author’s [Stephenie Meyer] choice was an English guy which was really strange. She wanted all English guys to play Americans. I think there is something about this myth in America of British people being classy.”
The Mystery of The Final Four Coupled with Kristen Stewart and Catherine Hardwicke’s remarks about the other male actors who auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen, it raised my curiosity as to who among the Brits made it to the final four for the role of Edward Cullen, not counting Rob.
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke describes the audition.
“So we had like four different finalists come over, and then Robert come over. Each of them tried different scenes — three different scenes with Kristen. And so for the bedroom scenes, yeah, we went into the bedroom [of my funky beach house]. I’m just there with the camera and kind of feeling the magic sort of come alive. And that chemistry, it was pretty exciting.”

Any idea who were the final four to audition for Edward Cullen? I’m really curious to know.

Same here – have always been curious about this. I know they considered someone from the show “The Tudors” but he was deemed too old to look “seventeen”. Also suspected that Zac & Chace were in the running but am no longer sure about this, given Rob’s comment that a few British guys were considered.

I have no idea, either, although I’ve wondered about it before. It doesn’t matter now, though, because no one but Rob can play Edward. In MY mind, anyway.

I don’t know… I think, I don’t care, who were the last four. I think Rob was the best choice for this role. And Kristen knew it, she felt the chemistry, she told Catherine to choose him, and it was great idea.
I can’t imagine another actor playing Edward. Rob is a perfect Edward. (Kriten said last year that Rob was her perfect Edward.)

I love it when Kristen talks. She explained it so well and she seems so mature and older than she really is(when she speaks)
. Rob is the perfect guy to play Edward, any other man would have flopped! Robert was everything I imagined Edward Cullen would be! He’s our perfect Edward. Sigh.

The four actors was Hayden Christensen, Robert Pattinson, Orlando Bloom and Gerard Way.But according to Meyer, ‘The only actor I’ve ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen was….(drumroll)….Henry Cavill.’Unfortunately, Meyer stated that; “The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward”, as Cavill was by then 24 years old, and thus too old to realistically fill the role.

Dunno if anyone knows now but Catherine Harwicke had revealed that the final 4 were Rob, Jackson Rathbone(!!!!!!!) Ben Barnes and some random bloke i’ve never heard of xx

Yes, I actually think that Jackson Rathbone would have been a good choice for Edward. But, in the end, I think Pattinson was the right choice.

I agree with Steph Meyer. Henry Cavill would have been perfect for the role. His face and performance in Tudors came very close to how the ideal Edward Cullen character. I didn’t know Rob before Twilight but I knew Henry because of Tudors. I would have picked him for Twilight’s Edward but then as Meyer said, his age would have made Kristen look like a little girl.

When I was reading the Books (the ones prior to any movie production), it was always Chace Crawford a true model-looking guy that seems too perfect it’s unnerving and should have been edward imo. I like Rob and all, but not as a Cullen. But oh well….

I really would like to know who the finals were. I still like the movies, but I was disappointed with the casting, as I felt that there was something wrong with each character in the movies compared to the books, but everyone’s ideas of the characters are different and I’ll still watch them, but am disappointed. No movies are better than the books.

i think the perfect edward cullen would be gaspard ulliel. the french actor. i also agree with meyer that henry cavill would do amazing. but my vote is for gaspard ulliel..

In addition to Robert Pattinson and Jackson Rathbone among the 4 finalists for the role of Edward, the other two, according to Catherine Hardwicke were Ben Barnes and Shiloh Fernandez. Rathbone was eventually offered the other role of Jasper instead.

i think hayden christensen would of been perfect as edward. rob patterson did an ok job, and whats done is done i guess. i just dont see him as edward.
