Robert Pattinson Finishes Shooting His Favorite New Moon Scene

(From L) Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Twilight

At the 2009 Oscars red carpet, Rob reveals the scene he’s looking most forward to shooting in New Moon to MTV.

Robert Pattinson said he can’t wait to dump Kristen Stewart’s Bella. “The scene where we temporarily break up. On one hand, it’s completely impossible. And on the other, it sets a very different tone to the series. I think it will be good.”

Maybe that can partially explain the gorgeous smile on Rob’s face as he leaves the set on 30 April 2009.

And, this bit of news surprised me. Aside from the woods, part of the Edward and Bella break up scene was shot at Bella’s house. Here’s a fan’s account.

Rob had been @ Bella’s House all night. Drove in at around 5:30 pm. Filming breakup scene. Just before 5am, the SUV that transports him pulled out… slowed down and Rob rolled down his window.

Anyway, in my New Moon Unofficial Film Script — Severed Ties (Part 1), I chose to put the Edward and Bella break up scene in the bedroom for several reasons:

To give tribute to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (where several New Moon plot’s twists and turns are based on) because their parting scene occurs in the bedroom.

To make a precedent for the Bella and Jacob scene where he “breaks” up with her.

To heighten Edward’s concern for Bella to make sure she’s safe when he leaves.

SEQ 07. INT. Bella’s Bedroom. Bella wakes up suddenly as if recovering from a nightmare, eyes frantically searching for Edward, before visibly relaxing when she sees Edward near the window. His face is cold and resolved. A streak of sunlight hits Edward, making him sparkle, causing Bella to gasp at the sight.

BELLA
You’re so beautiful. I can’t believe you’re mine.

EDWARD
I have to go.

BELLA
(quoting Shakespeare) Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day.
Therefore stay yet; thou need’st not to be gone.

EDWARD
I have to leave you.

BELLA
What do you mean?

EDWARD
We’re leaving.

BELLA
Okay. Let me just grab some clothes and my toothbrush.

EDWARD
No, Bella. I mean my family and myself.

BELLA
(angrily) What happened with Jasper — that was nothing, Edward! Nothing!

EDWARD
(with quiet despair) You’re right. It was exactly what was to be expected.

BELLA
You promised! You promised that you would stay!

EDWARD
As long as that was best for you.

Bella goes nearer to cup Edward’s face.

BELLA
You’re the very best part of my life.

Edward breaks away and moves away from Bella.

EDWARD
This is a mistake.

BELLA
It’s not a mistake!

Edward steels himself and then turns to face Bella.

EDWARD
I don’t want you anymore, Bella.

BELLA
You… don’t… want… me?

EDWARD
No.

BELLA
Well, that changes things.

Bella attempts to control herself, but, tears start to run down her face. Her thoughts are in turmoil as she tries to put up a verbal defense, but, her insecurities get the best of her, and her face collapses as she believes that Edward doesn’t want her anymore.

BELLA
Don’t. Don’t do this.

Edward moves towards the window to turn away from the sight, fearful he would not have the strength to go on.

EDWARD
Promise me one thing.

BELLA
Anything.

EDWARD
Take care of yourself. Don’t do anything reckless or stupid.

BELLA
I will.

EDWARD
Goodbye.

Edward can’t stand it and turns back to look at Bella. He makes a move as if to kiss her, but, he moves away hurriedly and leaves through the window.

Bella slowly collapses to the floor, finally releasing the torrent of tears she has tried to hold in. Her form twitches uncontrollably as sobs wrack through her body.

By golly I wonder why Robert feels this way about this scene? It’s so sad. I cried a little when I read it in New Moon. That was the worst, most painful way to dump someone! Tell them you don’t want them and leave the girl in the forest to fend for herself! :-(

In the ET interview, it sounded like Kristen was really dreading shooting that scene.

Hi Isabel. If you go to Robert Pattinson Can’t Wait to Dump Kristen Stewart, you’ll learn that Rob’s original favorite scene is the Volturi.

I believe that shooting the break up scene is a personal catharsis of some sort. And who can blame him?

  • toebildonk Says:

Lorna, do you think the break up scene represent his feeling about KS? well, crazy question.. but I just curios..

  • catheline1927 Says:

oh men, new moon is really heart breaking. i really want to see kristen cry. here’s another heart-wrenching moment for me, just wanna share. :)

    “Jake pressed his warm cheek
against the top of my hair.

If I turned my face to the side-if I
pressed my lips against his bare
shoulder… I knew without any doubt
what would follow. It would be very
easy. There would be no need for
    explanations tonight.

But could I do it? Could I betray my
absent heart to save my pathetic life?

    Butterflies assaulted my stomach
as I thought of turning my head.

And then, as clearly as if I were
    in immediate danger, Edward’s
velvet voice whispered in my ear.

    “Be happy,” he told me.”

    i just like it.

Toebildonk, many will disagree with me, but, my theory is Rob wants to move on, and the break up scene will somehow help in the process. Again, just a theory.

catheline1927, if you read Part 3 of my unofficial script, that passage is a major basis of the part where Bella has to choose between staying in Forks with Jacob, or, going to Volterra with Alice, thus, ultimately choosing Edward. :-)

  • catheline1927 Says:

really? well i haven’t read it yet. well then, i’ll read it now. thanks. :D

about my last post, i meant Jake not ake, sorry for that. :)

  • Bellacullen Says:

I think Rob enjoys the break up scene cause it is emotionally charged and challenging to him. I actually really want to see Kristen cry because I find that lacking in some of her films when she tries to express extreme sadness. Has anyone seen her cry in any of her films? I’ve watched In the Land of Women recently and the scene where she breaks down she doesn’t cry. I didn’t like that movie much. I’ve seen panic room and I don’t recall her crying in that one either. Same with Into the Wild, one of her best performances but when her crush leaves her in that movie I didn’t see a tear shed through her performance. Starting to make me wonder if this is what is lacking in her performances? I’m still a Kstew fan but curious if others have noticed.

  • catheline1927 Says:

done reading it! and they’re really good.

to bellacullen: i think she cried in “speak” when she was walking on the bridge after she was raped.
and oh i’m not sure, i can’t remember. :) anyway its a good movie, kristen did very well there. :)

  • Bellacullen Says:

Yeah I’m going to need to check out Speak and Cake Eaters. People keep raving about her performances in both. Have not seen Adventureland yet.

  • Isabel Says:

Geez I would hope Kristen will cry in that breakup scene! She’s supposed to :-) . I know I would cry.

  • rosalie Says:

I love bella and edward and I know everytime i read new moon their break up always brings me to tears I know im going to cry even more at the movie.

  • bella Says:

wasn’t the breakup scene in the woods? not in her room…they went for a walk as I remember…
