To highlight the return of the Video Music Awards to New York City, MTV has acquired the rights to the Tony award winning musical West Side Story, which is set in the well-known city.
With the famous star crossed lovers of Romeo and Juliet retold into the gang wars that separated Tony and Maria in the 1950s hit, and, presently, recreated once again by Stephenie Meyer in The Twilight Saga series through the characters of Edward and Bella, it would be fitting to have Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart be part of honoring the Broadway classic during the 2009 VMAs, such as, maybe posing or doing a short sequence as Tony and Maria to present a West Side Story number, which I sincerely doubt will happen.
In the meantime, what has been confirmed participation by The Twilight Saga stars during the 2009 VMAs on 13 September 2009 is the following:
The film’s first trailer premiered during this year’s MTV Movie Awards, and now the 26th annual VMAs are shaping up to be another bonanza for devoted Twilighters. “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will appear on the show to debut an exclusive expanded trailer for “New Moon,” the second film in Summit Entertainment’s vampire saga.
On the day of the show, MTV.com will debut the first single off the “New Moon” soundtrack, the Death Cab for Cutie tune “Meet Me on the Equinox.”
Here’s country superstar Taylor Swift singing one of the beloved songs from the musical, Tonight, to promote the 2009 VMAs

Dani, you’re right. It’s not them. It’s Ben Barnes and Camilla Belle in the Vanity Fair photo shoot. I only used it to illustrate how Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may look like if they do appear as Tony and Maria at the 2009 VMAs. Thanks for understanding.

Your idea of Rob and Kristen as Tony and Maria made we wonder if they’ll ever make a romantic film or project like this in the future. How about a non-musical version… a modern one such as DiCaprio and Danes as Romeo and Juliet. Hmmm… Oh okay, the Twilight Saga isn’t over yet. I’ll have to see it first down to Breaking Dawn. LOL

i LOVE west side story, its been my favorite musical for a while now ;]. im glad that its the vma theme…..what i would do to get tickets for that….

to quinevere im with you!i want rob and kstew to do a movie together that is not related with twiligth saga!!!i want them to do the remake of gone with the wind because when i read it scarlett’s description is exactly like kstew green eyes,small waistline,perfect skin,feirce girl…oh i hope they make a movie outside twilight world.
