Robert Pattinson A No Show at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards

Note: Although I believe in free speech, I also believe in courtesy. When you are writing your comments, I would appreciate a tone of civility even if you are in complete disagreement with my opinion. Your comments will be moderated and edited, if need be. Thank you very much for understanding.

Putting my love for Nick aside, I think it so UNPROFESSIONAL to let your name be associated with an event as a presenter and/or guest, and have said name, image, and likeness to be promoted heavily by the organizers and then not show up. (LA Times, who broke the story, learned of his non-attendance on the morning of 27 March 2009, the day before the event.)

Breaking your word and then not making an appearance is so unprofessional of you and your management team. To put it mildly, it was a very bad call.

What’s worse is to do it to kids. Be very careful of what you say to children for they remember details very well, especially a broken promise. (Note that I use the word kids loosely. The Nickelodeon demographics include tweens to teenagers.)

Please do NOT do something of this sort again. I would strongly suggest that you repeat your MO for the Oscars. There was no total positive confirmation of your participation until you showed up on the red carpet.

Thankfully, Taylor Lautner was gracious enough to take your place to receive the blimp for the Favorite book award for the Twilight series.

(Update 29 March 2009 11:22pm: Pattinson Online reports, “[If] you are wondering where Rob was last night when he didn’t attend the Kids’ Choice Awards, you will be as happy to hear as we were that he was enjoying some great music in Vancouver at some of the weekend long Juno Awards events.” FYI. The Juno Awards are the Grammys equivalent in Canada.)

Well said. Obviously, I agree. This move–the no-show–was wholly unexpected. It just didn’t seem like something Pattinson would do. Makes me wonder what really happened, who dropped the ball and WHEN.

  • twilight Says:

Thanks, Unhinged. Hopefully, it will be the first and last time he does something like this.

  • BellaCullen Says:

Well this may mean that he was in Canada with Kristen alone. They went to a secret Canadian outing…

I’m sure there is a reason for his bailout..this is very uncharacteristic of Rob. I’m not too upset though. As a fan I’m sure he has his reasons..Besides..this means more bonding time for ROBSTEN.

  • CHI Says:

I’m sorry to hear that…it really is a bad call. I just hope that whatever reason he has for not attending is justifiable enough.

  • Kairi Says:

i dont understand you all…is that a big deal that robert no show on this nickelodeon? I think he is so busy he is doing and practising his stunt make-up and tired of this recent bad rumors.Lets just understand what his decision, maybe his management knows about that, for something reason.Hey what about kristen? I think they using robert pattinson name, oops sorry but thats so unfair for robert..sorry….

The Nickelodeon KCA is the equivalent of the Oscars for the market of tweens to teenagers, in short, the Twilight market.

    Highlights of the 2009 KCA
    Source: http://www.nickkcapress.com/2009KCA/:

Kids honored their favorites by casting over 90 million votes March 2-28 in 18 categories.

Hosted by Dwayne Johnson, the awards show at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion honored kids’ favorite TV, movies, music and sports stars, and delighted the crowd with torrential superstar slime showers. Will Ferrell set the world record for the first-ever “Slip n’ Slime” by traveling over 200 ft. on the green goop, The Jonas Brothers got a sliming like no other, Jesse McCartney was soaked with slime and Hugh Jackman and Sandra Bullock were surprised with the green goo. Going green, too, albeit in a different manner, Leonardo DiCaprio accepted the first-ever Nickelodeon Big Green Help Award for his environmental efforts from last year’s Wannabe Award recipient, Cameron Diaz.

The star-studded telecast featured additional celebrity participants, including: Paula Abdul, David Archuleta, John Cena, Lily Collins, Miranda Cosgrove, Chase Crawford, Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, America Ferrera, Megan Fox, Shia LaBeouf, George Lopez, Keke Palmer, Josh Peck, Chris Pine, Amy Poehler, Queen Latifah, Emma Roberts, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Marlon Wayans, Owen Wilson, Alex Wolff, Nat Wolff and many others.

You know what, erase all that, and in a nutshell, he committed. In return for his commitment, Nick showered him with publicity from its website to press releases.

    Do NOT commit next time.

Rob started from theatre. He knows this adage very well. “There’s only one excuse for not performing. You have to be d—

  • alf Says:

maybe, the management sent Taylor because he will be the main character in New Moon..so, the kids will recognize him very well..haha maybe..

  • LatinainCanada Says:

I hoped he was going to show up. But he did not. I am very disappointed. However I know there is a good explanation for his absent. I will wait to hear the truth from the horse’s mouth. Maybe Beautiful British Columbia makes him feel homey and cozy or maybe he is getting to know better his favorite woman in the world…bonding time.
    Anyway, Taylor did great job.

  • susie Says:

I think he’s just too busy to come. Also, these things happen all the time. Even those nominated or even winners sometimes could not come (maybe shooting in a far location or for musicians, performing on the other side of the world). What more for Rob who’s not even nominated for anything? I am not making excuses for the guy but right now, his main priority is doing “New Moon” and also, who knows what really happens to these events? Maybe the big bosses opted for Taylor to come instead so people would be more familiar with him since he’s supposedly the star of “New Moon”. It’s show BUSINESS and Rob is just a puppet. LOL. (joke)

  • Kate Says:

Summit is trying to promote Taylor. Nobody would have watched for Taylor Lautner. They did a bait and switch. Its more than obvious that Rob is a consummate professional, however, he is being pushed out of public appearances, pictures, or even getting snapped by the paparazzi in order for Summit to brand Lautner as the new face of the franchise. Lautner is a Disney type that withers without attention. He ate it up. Rob is a solitary guy who takes his roles seriously who was probably happy not to attend.

  • Thea Says:

Yeah we don’t really know the reason so I will wait til he says something. It’s good Taylor was there, maybe he needs more exposure. And usually the managers are the ones who set up these things, I doubt Rob Pattinson personally scheduled himself to come. So maybe there was a change, a good reason for him not to be there. I’m not upset about it.

  • Jenny Says:

It was even announced earlier that he wouldn’t be there, so it’s not like he said he would and then didn’t show up.

  • Sweetbunni Says:

He announced days ago that he wasn’t going to be able to make.

He’s done so much promotion for Twilight, so what if doesn’t show up for one event? Taylor went…that’s more his crowd…

  • igal32 Says:

It was announced days ago that he would not be going, and on top of that he is doing New Moon right now. It’s not a big deal AT ALL and I don’t understand why people are so upset about this…

  • Beatrice Says:

Rob did well by not going to this event. There is a thing such as overexposure. He went to the Oscars, a real prestige event.

  • Isalight Says:

I consider shooting a movie MUCH more important thatn attneidng those awards! Who knows, maybe Nickelodeon just put Rob’s name out there to pressure him to attend when he hadn’t really committed yet? Summit may just have promised for a “lead actor” to attend and Nick concluded it was Rob. Neither he himself nor his management ever confirmed he’d be there. He was not nominated, neither was the movie he starred in. And kids are not the target audience for Twilight – that would be the teens and twens. So why should Rob have been there. Honestly the NKCA are at least two steps down from the Oscars. I never understood why he would even have considered attending to accept an award that really belongs to Stephanie Meyer. Good for Taylor to be there. He was a good choice to go if anyone had to show up at all. He’s closer to the age group anyways.

  • Beth Says:

First, where did ROB ever say he was confirmed to go? He didn’t. And thank God he didn’t go! After the lies spread all over the media about his hygiene this week(which he smartly addressed as lies in his recent interview) he would have been slung through the mud again by the media gleefully making fun of him for getting slimed.

Another thing, why didn’t SM go?? It was HER book that she wrote, not Rob or Taylor. And KCA the equivalent of the Oscars??? LMAO Twilight the movie is NOT for children, and the books are *not* kid appropriate either. They’re called Young Adult for a reason. Children do not need to reading about sexual desires when they are 10. This was not the Teen Choice Awards or MTV, different demographics.

Rob has been in seclusion for 2 wks, so what if the guy wanted to get out for a night. He deserves to have a few beers with all the crazy screaming hysteria he’s put up with for the past year. And I agree with Beatrice, he is very close to getting overexposed, which can backfire. The Oscars were a HUGE thing and he did those. Let someone else do the kiddie shows.

  • Diane Says:

Rob pulled out because he was needed in Vancouver on the set, as was stated in the LA Times on Friday. Summit no doubt arranged for Taylor Lautner to attend in his place. He was not a no-show. It was announced a day prior.

And yes, Rob evidently attended some JunoFest party Saturday evening. I don’t see how that has anything to do with the Kids Choice Awards. In order to attend the awards he would have had to fly down to Los Angeles that morning (or probably the night before). In order to attend the JunoFest party he merely went out after his days’ work was done.

Was he supposed to stay inside and mope Saturday night because he wasn’t in L.A. to please everyone?

  • Sarah Says:

Rob was NOT a “no show”, it was reported several days ago by the LA Times that he would not be attending. Nickelodeon probably just put his name out there because he is the star of the franchise. He more than likely worked all day and then went out after he was done for the day. Hard to be in 2 places at once. Rob is a consummate professional, as evidenced by the awful Maul Tours he so graciously put up with last year in addition to all the promos and interviews he did nonstop for 6 months.

  • Kairi Says:

actually it was stephanie’s book, she was the one have to be there! She was the one who’s nominated. And its about the book and not the movie. And Why everyone (not everyone)is upset? Its not a big deal by the way! I think they just putand use Robert name bcoz he is so famous now,for rating? i think..He dont need to be there just to recieve an award not for him, guyz think of it.No reason for being upset

  • Kayla Says:

“Nick showered him with publicity from its website to press releases.”

Are you serious? Robert Pattinson doesn’t need this type of publicity to be popular in the public eye. I really think you have it backwards. The Nick people put him on the list in hopes that his schedule would allow it and because they wanted to attract more viewers. Unfortunately for them he had other commitments and they had to settle for Taylor. The Oscars are a prime example of the media using Robert and his current fame for their gain.

The Juno’s were held in Vancouver, the same city he has to work in the next day. I really don’t get the point of bring him attending that up here. It’s easier to attend a party in your city, then it is to travel across the country to attend another one and have to be back at work the next day.

  • dana Says:

Anyway, I really don’t think that either Robert or Taylor have anything to do with attending or not. Their managers and/or Summit are the ones that tell them jump, and they both say how high? Thats’ what up and coming actors do. Robert does not release things to the press, again its his manager that does. Take it up with him instead of blaming Robert.

  • toflink Says:

where’s your evidence he allowed his name to be associated with this?

Even if he did (which I doubt) could it be he was gracious enough to let TL appear because summit need him increase his profile.

  • Emma Says:

Taylor was a better choice to be at the award in the first place. I don’t know what the big deal is if Rob have to work then goes out after to a music festival. Is he suppose to do his set then lock himself in his hotel afterward? Would that make the hater ease up on the man? He done enough for this movie before and after. Always been gracious about it too. Its time for Taylor to take over the promotonal duties.

  • Laura Says:

okay you need to get your facts straight
they announced that robert wasn’t going to be there a few days ago he didn’t BAIL OUT and honestly why would he have gone anyways? why couldn’t stephenie meyer go it’s her book. i don’t see you bashing her for not going. taylor is 16 rob is 22 so obviously talor was better suited to go he fit the age range ROB ISN’T A KID. nick had no right promoting him if he couldn’t go and you make him out to be the bad guy when all he has done is promote this movie and has never been anything but gracious to his fans. so leave him alone or get your facts straight

  • Kelly Says:

You guys are playing RIGHT into Summit’s hands. Seriously, the Taylor worship while you suddenly dog Rob? Yeah, that is exactly what they want. They don’t think the audience is sophisticated enough to separate the actors from the characters. So, they are playing you like a fiddle in order to promote Taylor/Jacob while Rob/Edward is away.

  • Scarlet Says:

Actually, being a “professional” means concentrating and putting your first responsibility to the job for which you are getting paid. Rob is in the midst of filming “New Moon” in Vancouver and it was determined that that was where he needed to be–not 1,000 miles away picking up an award for Stephenie Meyer.

Actors back out of far more important industry events all the time due to work commitments. It’s hardly unprecedented, so calling out Robert for this is nonsensical.

Additionally, chastising him for attending a concert last night, in the city which he is filming and which took only a couple hours of his time, is the equivalent of scolding him for taking time to eat dinner. Frankly, it’s a poor analogy.

  • twilight17R Says:

Why are you making a big deal? Maybe robert had to do something really important and for the reason he did not attend to the kids choice awards. And for your information robert has a life too so leave hiM alone. All of you people are mad because he didnt show up for the awards because you really wanted to see him, but you didnt. For this reason you are telling robert stuff that he dont even deserve.
    HES HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thea Says:

I think Rob needs some relaxation and if he went to that concert or if he decided to just stay home that’s is fine. He worked so hard the past yr, poor guy is far from home and all. He deserves a break. Anyway, Stephenie Meyer should have been the one at the Nickelodeon Awards.
He is so popular now that I sometimes feel sorry for him sometimes because he is always in the limelight. I imagine that can get old after a while.
