Kristen Stewart Explains Why She Didn’t Wear a Wig for The Runaways
Without a doubt, if people were made to choose between the Joan Jett black mullet and the brown tresses of Kristen Stewart, majority will choose the latter, and, they have made this very clear to the Eclipse heroine, as she recounts in an interview with Brazil magazine Capricho
[Okay], seriously, why didn’t [you just wear] a wig [while] shooting [for] The Runaways?
(laughter) I felt a big responsibility [in portraying] Joan, [for] we became great friends. And even if I hadn’t known her, it would [have been] very strange shooting [beneath all that hair]. It would be like [wearing a] helmet. I needed to [get under her skin and know how it was like to be her]. I [didn't want to] run the risk of [playing Joan like] a caricature. [Cutting the hair really helped me with the process]. I felt [I was the] character. [That's just how I work.]Like you, the girls of The Runaways had success [when they were] very young. Are you afraid [that you will fade away just] like them?
[It can] always happen. [That's how it] works [in] the world of [celebrities]. I try to be different [so that I won't] fall into the same trap. But it’s hard [when some girls criticize] my work [and dismiss it as] nonsense.Such as?
For example, [some people hated me for cutting my hair, because I didn't look "like me"] anymore. Actually, I know it’s because I didn’t look like Bella anymore. [Honestly], I don’t understand these girls who judge others by the [length of their] hair [as a way to measure] femininity. We gotta be more than [just appearances]!But how do you know [what people say]?
People say [it straight to] my face! “Why did you cut your hair? Why did you do that? [Didn't you cry when you cut your hair?] It’s [horrible]!” Then they ask: “How can you [possibly like having] hair like [that]?” And I [simply] answer that I like [it]. [Then] they get [mad].

I agree..it’s just hair. Just because your hair is short, doesn’t mean your not feminine..btw I have short hair and I [sort of] feminine. It’s just hair anyways, it’ll grow back soon.
This interview makes me love her more (if that’s possible). She’s so mature for such a young age. She’s unbelievable!

Ah so that’s why she didn’t wear a wig. But what about Eclipse now, will she wear a wig?
I honestly don’t think it’s just that they associate her hair w/ Bella. If you watch old movies of Kristen, her hair was always long and brown too, similar to her her when she portrayed Bella. There was one movie where she was a blond but I can’t remember the title. There was Panic Room, her hair seemed lighter there and shorter but she was so young there.

I was/am impressed that she cut her hair for the Joan Jet role. i thought it was a sign of a devoted actress, someone who is really into their job and playing the character authentically, just like she said. Smart girl, KStew. I like her more and more.
