I just bought The Vampire Diaries Season 1 DVDs and have watched the first episode. Immediately, I can see its appeal, especially since there are numerous details that remind me of Twilight

The First Meeting Elena Gilbert, the female lead, meets her romantic counterpart Stefan Salvatore in a high school setting — the school corridor. Bella Swan and Edward Cullen first laid eyes on each other in the school cafeteria.

The Good Vampire Stefan Salvatore is a vampire who refuses to drink human blood like Edward Cullen

Mystic Falls The story is set in the small town of Mystic Falls, in the same way that Twilight had the remote Forks Washington as its background.

The Love Triangle While Bella Swan was in the middle of a love triangle flanked by vampire Edward Cullen and shape shifter Jacob Black, Elena Gilbert is torn between vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore

Mystery Murders Mysterious murders begin to plague Mystic Falls, just like in the surrounding areas of Forks Washington

I’ll definitely be watching the rest of the Season 1 episodes of The Vampire Diaries

I was with you up until the love triangle part. IMO the movie Jacob was no competiton for Edward, none.at.all. In the movie he seemed like an impetuous child. Also, Taylor Lautner is/was no romantic rival to Robert Pattinson. If they had cast someone else in the role, someone a little older or who looked more mature, I could buy the romantic triangle angle, but not with Taylor in the role. He seemed more like Kristen’s brother.

    You’ll love it…
And season two, is starting with the right foot, it’s been only two episodes, and I’m hooked again..

I can see how Vampire Diaries can relate to Twilight, but they definately did not steal Twilight’s idea. The Vampire Diaries is a series of books written in 1998 or so! Twilight was written in 2005 or so. :)

AllstarLlama; yeah vampire diaries was written before twilight, first VD book came out in 1991, more than a decade before twilight…while am a fan of twilight, i think vampire diaries is a lot better :)

VD has better writers (Melissa R. sucks), but they still are not on par with the Twilight Saga’s popularity. Also, why did they change Elena from a blonde (in the books) to a brunette? I love Ian Somerhalder (Damon), he makes the show, but the cast still hasn’t reached the ginormous popularity that the twifecta has worldwide.

¡¡This is very hot …!! Kristen is a girl with a lot of luck. Enjoy.

I dont think she’s saying they stole anything from Twilight, just pointing out the similarities and there are some definite ones.
Having not read the books, I had no idea that Elana was blonde in them, but Nina Dobrev is gorgeous and perfect for the part so Im glad they decided to go with her over insisting she be blonde.
About Tayor being young, Jacob’s supposed to be young. I think it makes him look even younger that Rob’s older and so freaking SEXY! And its probably hard to believe any Bella and Jacob feelings in the movie because of the intensity of all that is true Robsten chemistry.
I dont think Ian is all that hot but there is just something about him as Damon. However, Stefan would have to do something REALLY BAD for me to not want him with Elana anymore.
I love Twilight and The Vampire Diaries! The best thing about TVD is you get a new episode every week :-) ROBSTEN FOREVER

  • Jenna Says:

Vampire Diaries is waaaay better than Twilight, Vampire Diaries makes sense, and by comparing Vampire Diaries to Twilight, it’s such a shame. And your post on comparing the details with Twilight should be the other way round, with Twilight being compared to Vampire Diaries on the striking similarities since it’s a known fact that Stephenie Meyer can’t write and she obviously copied ideas bits and bits from all the different vampire-related stories out there.

  • ZoZo Says:

You know that all the things you listed came from the Vampire Diaries book series which was published 14 years before Twilight. So if anything, Twilight reminds you of TVD.
