Have You Read Twilight in a Language Other than English

Courtesy of Summit Entertainment
My sister brought up an interesting question, ‘Has some ATK readers read Twilight in two languages? If yes, which language?’
The follow up questions that crossed my mind were:
Do you have copies of The Twilight Saga in both languages, like, for example, you have eight books, four in Spanish and four in English?
Do you have a preference for a particular language when reading The Twilight Saga?
Can you please copy from your book or translate these famous Edward Cullen lines from the meadow scene in Twilight from English to another language or dialect? Just for fun.

“I’m the world’s best predator, aren’t I? Everything about me invites you in — my voice, my face, even my smell.”
Thank you very much everybody!

Hi, I’m italian. I read the entire saga in italian, of course. But I bought Twilight and New Moon also in english and I read Twilight. I’ll read Moon soon.
I prefer the english books, because they are the original version and mostly translation is not exactly the same (however the italian translation of Twilight is very close to the original).
In italian, the meadow lines are

We speak a little Spanish but I only have it in the original language, I’ve only read it in English. I love all these posts though in different languages! So cool! In Spanish, the title is Crespusculo (don’t know how to put the accent on the u). I can translate the text but maybe someone has the book in Spanish and can post it.

I’ve read it in English and in my language – I’m Croatian.
“Forbidden to remember, terrified to forget.” = “Nisam se smjela sjećati, nisam se usuđivala zaboraviti. ”
I love to read but somehow I always end up reading books in English instead in my language. I love English, I think it’s more passionate language that mine.

Girls, did you notice that most of us, like english version more the native one? I mean, I can really feel the connection with the characters more deeper in english than in romanian. I feel in romanian… it is not that real. Do you feel the same?
July 12th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
I`m from Germany. I have bought the all four books in german and englisch. The englisch version is better! But thats what it says in germen:
“Bin ich nicht das perfekte Raubtier. Alles an mir wirkt einladend auf dich – meine Stimme, mein Gesicht, selbst mein Geruch.”

OMG! i love reading all of those comments from all over! even if I clearly do not understand them LOL. But knowing that they come from the same book, the same story, it all sound *reads* so romantic guys. Like Lorna, I’m from the Philippines, and we have yet to see the day the Twilight Saga will be translated in our native language (Filipino/ Tagalog) and that may never come… but personally I prefer to read it in it’s original text as written by Meyer, in English. So I don’t really mind if we don’t have it in our local language, but won’t that be real cool.
A call to ATK reader Mayhemonte-you gotta add your bit to all these exotic translations bud!
July 13th, 2009 at 1:34 am
i have read it spanish and ew! they have change some line and doesn’t transmit the same emotion…..I didn’t like it!
July 13th, 2009 at 2:32 am
Yes, that was the same feeling. I like my mother language, it means me everything, but I prefer the English, the original version. The hungarian translation was good, but I more like the English.
But, when I watched the film… I watched it in English and in italian, and I thought I watched it in hungarian. After 10 minutes watching I changed back the language to english… the hungarian voice was terrible…
July 13th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
This post bewitched me! This is my third comment!
)
As Vico1 said, I prefer the original language for the movie too… I can’t watch it in italian: their voices sound fake to me… probably because I’ve seen a lot of interviews and I know it very well. And Rob Pattinson’s voice and accent are so cute…:))
Bye

The replies to this post are bewitching, Francesca!
Translating is really an art form, and, personally, I would probably find the task terrifying if I had to do it for a whole book! Thank you very much everybody for sharing your time and talent in translating the words to another language! Some of you are so talented with languages that you can understand, speak and/or write two or more! Bravo!

Those are 2 more extra lines.

P.S I don’t know if I spelled those correctly. I’m from Puerto Rico, I did what i could!
