A Twilight Kiss

My fingers stilled over the ivory piano keys as the images from Alice flooded my mind. A girl. Dead on the floor. Choke marks on her neck. Her face a mask of horrified pain.

Despite the distance from the TV set, my ears easily picked up the news of the upcoming Chris Brown — Rihanna case where the panelists were speculating as to what his plea would be despite the fact that he has already been judged guilty by the general public through the court of media.

And then even more flashes of other females, with blackened bruises, broken teeth and bones, and bleeding wounds, littered my brain.

I stood and went to Carlisle’s room to explain to my father my soon to take effect absence from the Cullen residence.

Alice was at the door as I exited the room on my way to the garage. I met her warm gaze. Of course, she had known what I was about to do the moment I stood up from the piano bench.

“Be careful.”

I smiled crookedly at her and gave a slight nod, continuing to stride towards the front entrance. She called out after me, “And remember to wear gloves.”

Without turning, I raised my hand, the tips of my black leather gloves bidding her farewell as I held them in my grip.

And then I was on my way to the City of Angels, Los Angeles, a city our family studiously avoided because its bright sunlight would immediately expose us for what we are — vampires.

It was easy to slip into the LA courthouse even with all the surveillance and security measures. I patiently waited for his arrival inside the dark interiors of the lobby, where my stone-hard skin would not catch the rays of the sun and turn into a dazzling display.

A wave of expectation surged through the crowd as the security detail started moving the spectators back.

I tuned out the contradictory voices in my head as Chris Brown exited his vehicle.

The scum!

I tuned in to his thoughts and those around him, seeking the minds that would have a knowledge of his personal history.

As Chris Brown stood in court and listened to the criminal complaints being leveled against him, I willed that someone from his personal entourage or he himself would remember his past secrets and hushed up misdemeanors.

“…did willfully and unlawfully commit an assault on ROBYN F. by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.”

A black female. Teenager. Up against the wall. A meaty hand closed around her neck. Her own hands futile in its efforts to free herself. Her attacker idly looks down at the scattered letter envelopes that have been knocked down when he had shoved her back.

I smiled grimly as I noted the address.

“….did willfully and unlawfully threaten to commit a crime which would result in death and great bodily injury to ROBYN F., with the specific intent that the statement be taken as a threat.”

“YOU DO NOT F—-ING TALK TO ME LIKE THAT! YOU B—CH! IF YOU DO THAT AGAIN, I’M GONNA F—ING KILL YOU! YOU UNDERSTAND ME? YOU ST—-D C-NT!”

“What is your plea?”

“Not guilty, Your Honor.”

I stopped the snarls that wanted to erupt from my throat. My body froze with the effort not to leap over the heads of the people in the courtroom and snap his neck. No. Too merciful. I can capture him and bring him to a hidden location where I can leisurely torture him for weeks, stretching his physical agony until it can somehow minutely match his atrocities against the women in his life.

Bella is really good for him. Such control.

Despite my intentions to block him, Carlisle’s comment filtered through as I told him how I had anonymously given the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office a list of names of possible witnesses in order to strengthen their case against Chris Brown by establishing a history for physical, emotional and psychological abuse against other women aside from Rihanna.

Entertainment Tonight reports that “R&B star Rihanna’s real name has been reported as Robyn Rihanna Fenty.”

The criminal complaints that were used in the story are factual and real, as well as Chris Brown’s plea of Not Guilty.
