Do You Know A Male Person Who Has Read the Twilight Saga Books

New Moon Book Cover with Ruffled Tulip

I was in a Starbucks coffee shop on 20 July 2009 when I was struck by the sight of a male person with a copy of the New Moon book tucked under his arm.

I asked the fates to help me decide. If he comes near me again within talking range, then, I’ll inquire whether I can interview him for five minutes for ATwilightKiss

After more than an hour, my sister and I were already on our way out when he went in from the outdoor patio where he and his female companions were seated. As we were standing outside, I looked at my sister and requested for advice, “Should I?” She replied in the affirmative.

When he was on his way out with four cups of water on a tray, I approached him and first clarified whether he was holding a Twilight series book awhile ago.

When he responded, “Yes,” I introduced myself and explained about my Twilight blog. However, it turns out that the book belongs to his girlfriend and he was just carrying it for her, and not actually reading it himself.

So, if you know a male who has actually read the book/s, can you please ask him/them some questions and then share their answers in the comments section? Thank you very much. :)

How did you learn of the Twilight series?

What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?

Well, I do have a guyfriend who is on Breaking dawn…but….he’s on vacation for the whole summer…..SORRY, Lorna!

  • lola Says:

well i have a couple of guy friends that read it … and they all found out about the saga by girls … they read them by curiosity , they all read all the books ( cause they wanted to know the end or something like that)

i think not or maybe … cause they all read it but that its , they all saw that movie but thats it … just like if it was any other book …

and just one of them owns the book / the other just borrow…

  • Bell Says:

Ok… a subject where finally I can do something, hehe

Yep, I know 2 males that have read the entire twilight saga… they’re my nephews… one of them is 12 years old, the other one…

    … is 26 years old…

At this moment the younger is playing chess at a tournament, but I hope he wil be home very soon, the other one… is waiting for the chess player to take him home :(

I promise I’ll interview him in the very moment they get home and share the answers with you ;)

  • Isabel Says:

Well my SO has been saying he’s gonna read it but that’s been months ago. Still has not even started.

  • twilight Says:

That’s okay, TeamEdward101. If you ever get to chat with him…

Lola, do you think they’re being secretive because they don’t want to seem to like the books too much? LOL

And, I’ll be looking forward to it, Bell. That would be very interesting because their ages alone would mean totally different perspectives. :D

Isabel, I know of someone whose husband started reading Twilight and couldn’t finish it. Hehe…

  • sabrina tt Says:

Hey lorna, well most of my guy friends think The tilight saga is GAY.Some of them finished twilight and tried New moon but they said all that pining for Edward was too much to stand and gave up.Two of my male best friends read the whole saga(because,I kinda forced them.lol)but both of them skipped New moon and just asked me how it ended. One said he liked breaking dawn the best coz most of it was written from Jacob’s POV.

P.S: Most of them were really excited for Midnight sun…..But too bad, isnt it?? I just aked my best friend Ryan and he said he would definitely buy MNS,and so would my other guy friends :D

  • CASS Says:

ALL of my brother`s classmates are addicted to Twilight AND Robsten. So they`re certified shippers… And I introduced Robsten to them, thank you very much. I came around to ask them those questions a few days ago.

How did you learn of the Twilight Series

[R.B.]: Why you asking me? You told me about it…
    [J.I]: I have four sisters…
[A.S.]: Robert Pattinson was in Harry Potter…

What made you read the book?
    [R.B.]: I have lady troubles… (lol)
[J.I.]: I`m curious. Plus, Kristen Stewart is the hottest girl on the planet…
    [A.S.]: I don`t know. Everybody else is reading it…

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?
    [R.B.]: I`m reading Eclipse now.
[J.I.]: I finished reading all of them a month after Breaking Dawn came out… Hah!
    [A.S]: On Breaking Dawn.

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?
    [R.B.]: Uhhh… I don`t know. I`m a dude. Then I guess, yeah.
[J.I.]: Sure. (then he said as a comment: ) Tell you`re brother to read it too.
: (my answer: ) I`ve been trying. He likes Lightning Thief more.
[A.S.]: Maybe. Edward is a great man. (I laughed, then he said in comment: ) I know you`re every teenage girl in the planet. I KNOW YOU LOVE ROBERT PATTINSON.

    Uuuuh… That`s it.

And, I do not love Rob. LOL.

And, oh yeah. Right now, this comment looks like a CSS code. LOL. Sorry if it`s kinda confusing if I put the wrong encoding on the wrong place. :P

  • Isabel Says:

Lorna, that’s funny. I can totally see DH doing that. Everytime I tell him little bits and pieces fr these books he tells me not to spoil it for him because he’s gonna eventually read it…I doubt he ever will and if he does, he’ll get bored bec. it’s really too emotional for him. LOL. I asked my brother-in-law if he has seen the movie and he gave me the oddest look. His words were “I have no interest in it whatsoever!” So I said, “oh yeah I forgot you’d rather see violent manly stuff, right.” LOL

  • twilightfan Says:

Yeah, I know one guy who was (is?) reading Twilight. I asked him if i could borrow Eclipse, but my friend already asked, then i got it off amazon… He really likes it, but not as much as i do… I AM A TWILIGHT FREAK!!!!!!!! Anyway, I’ll ask him after school starts again… Sorry guys, but he won’t answer my emails… Also, one other guy, who i can ask, is reading Eclipse, but hasn’t read Twilight or New Moon, since he saw the movie, and doesn’t want to read New Moon… Poor excuse… he just wants to read the… well i’ll leave it at that…

He likes Twilight, but he also likes Underworld… (Yuck!) and Harry Potter (my second fav books…)

I’ll ask, and get back to you guys…

  • Ana Lisbeth Says:

I don’t actually know one…but in Bellaandedward.com the fan of the month happens to be a guy…he tells is story, how he got involved and how it changed his life…
    :p

  • jethsy Says:

@rob-kris22 That’s exactly what I pointed out in the previous post. I guess someone noticed it too. I didn’t know what’s the thing on Rob’s wrist was all about – now IC, Kristen wore it too! *sigh* will they just let the truth out! I’m dying out here. . . What a teaser!!! We’re watching you Kris and Rob.

Oh, Lorna and everybody, you gotta see this video of Taytay and Kikis. See at :23 Kris gave a tease kiss to Taytay. . . She needs to do that with Rob as well. I’m protesting!!!! She gotta do it. If she can pull a trick like that with Taytay she needs to do the same thing with Rob next time around!

  • jethsy Says:

Oh, I don’t know of any male Twilight reader in my family. My husband doesn’t have time to read the series so he gets the story from me and knows the plot. He thinks that author Stephenie Meyer is a genius in the sense that she turned a lot of woman (especially) into a Twilight addict. Stephenie Meyer is the #1 Twilight crack dealer in the world and we’re the addicts! LMAO
I wonder if there’s any Twilight in the next world. I’m going to be so sad without it. It’s my own personal brand of heroine.

  • Rick Says:

I’m a thirty year old man and I’ve read the Twilight Saga – Not quite finished Breaking Dawn yet.

  • twilight Says:

sabrina tt, at least they tried it. I can understand the aversion for New Moon. I think it can be quite uncomfortable for some.

CASS, that is fantastic! I love the CSS Code documentation! And your powers of persuasion are something else… ;)

Isabel, well, I can understand. With two females of the household gaga over Twilight, I think he needs to hold the fort. ;)

Twilightfan, I like Underworld and Harry Potter too. Actually, Underworld is a Romeo and Juliet type of story as well.

Thanks for the heads up, Ana Lisbeth! :)

Jethsy, you should send a letter to stephenie meyer saying that! :D

Rick, since you’re on Breaking Dawn already, I will presume that you have a liking for the series. :)

  • Francesca Says:

    Hi Lorna,
I don’t know men that read the books, but I’m trying to convince my husband to do it in august.
I will let you know after the summer!
    Bye

  • Chloe Says:

I live in England and recently saw a big burly builder sitting on the back of his truck drinking a coffee and reading twilight in his lunch-break. I was gonna talk to him about it but when I say he was Big i mean really BIG. Needless to say, I chickened out and left him to his book !!!!

  • Milena Says:

    Hey Lorna,
my boyfriend read Twilight saga, but I didn’t ask him those questions.
So.. hm, I’m really interesting how Robert and Kristen spend they weekend.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx4_ciyxO0M&feature=channel_page
This interview is great, especially the part when Robert is talking about love. Look at Ashley’s and Kristen’s face. There’s something going between Rob and Kristen I can feel it! :)
How do you think Lorna? :)

  • twilight Says:

buona fortuna on that summer project, francesca! :)

Chloe, I’ll take it to mean he’s a romantic at heart then. Good for you! :)

mada, that would have been a fantastic picture! OMG! Of course, there’s privacy laws, but, a BIG guy holding a Twilight book is the same as a muscled guy holding a baby! It makes you go ‘Awwww…’

Jazlinn, tell him he’s going to be tickled pink about something in the book. Uhm, his name is Riley, right? ;)

Milena, yes, there’s definitely something going on there. I proposed three theories, but, only discussed one at length:

I’ve read your post Lorna and I don’t know what to say. Maybe she thinks that way.

Hm.. when i was watching other parts of the Comic Con i’ve seen how Kristen and Robert were looking at each other and smiling.

  • Jennifer Says:

I have two gay friends. One is still reading New Moon and the other has read them repeatedly. So I asked him these questions.
*He heard about them from some friends so he bought the books.
*He read them out of curiousity.
*He is gay so he wouldn’t know if other guys like them.
My brother on the other hand, has listened to me read them and talk about them. He even watches the movie with me, but he’s into the fight scenes and funny moments. All the romance scenes ruin it for him.
    I hope I helped!

  • Bell Says:

Ok… here are my answers, hehe
Just let’s call my nephews #1 and #2 ok? #1 is 12 yrs old and #2 is 26 years old

    Nephew # 1
Q: How did you learn of the Twilight series?
A: Because my aunt talked to me about the books and lend me the entire saga, and now even my mom is reading Twilight

Q: What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?
A: At first it was curiosity, but then I liked it, it’s a fascinating story

Q: Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?
A: Yes, the books are very easy to read, and I’ve read them all (Bell’s note: He’s a voracious reader, he even finished Breaking Down in 3 and a half days! And you can ask him the minimal details and he know them!!)

Q: Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?
    A: Yes, they’re very interesting

    Nephew #2
Q: How did you learn of the Twilight series?
A: My aunt and sister are in love with the books, so, they introduce in a way in Bella’s world, and then, they took me to the premier of the movie

Q: What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?
A: As I said, I first saw the movie, that got my attention, so I wanted to know the rest of the “story” (Bell’s note: as you can guess, I had to give him my books)

Q: Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?
A: Of course, I’ve read the four books and even an excerpt of Midnight Sun. (Bell’s note: He even delayed the reading of Breaking Dawn, it took him almost 5 or 6 weeks to finish that book. Why? He said to me he didn’t want the magic to end, that it was the last book and he wanted to enjoy it… slowyly)

Q: Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?
A: It’s a fascinating story, with many twists, and love scenes are… well, you know, we, as men really hate EXTREMELY sweet love scenes, but in this book, love scenes were messured and justifiable, the characters are so colorful, vibrant and lively that you just love them

So, those were my nephews answers, I hope I helped ;)

  • Craig Says:

Well im a male and i love the twilight books.

I learnt about the twilight series from my sister because she bought the books and talked about them alot.

My sister is the reason i started reading the books because she told me it was about vampires and werewolves and then after reading a few chapters of twilight i found that the story is so interesting and gripping!

I have read twilight, new moon and eclipse but do not yet own breaking dawn so i am still yet to read it.

I think if more men gave the twilight series a chance and actually read them then they will find that they are very interesting books! so i think yes the series could appeal to the male market!

  • lola Says:

lorna i got more info on my guy friends … they like it , the story … but they dont like that they have 2 see it from bellas eyes , like when she describes edward (they say : its like we 2 are falling 4 edward …lol) and the absolutly liked when it was jacob talking on breaking dawn …. ps . cool that theres a guy’s comment… :p

  • dazzled Says:

Okay so I’m still waiting for 2 other responses from my guys friends who’ve read Twilight but I got 1 of the 3 guys to answer your questions Lorna and here they are…

How did you learn of the Twilight series?
    >because of the screaming fangirls all around me

What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?
    >because i just like to read books, for the sake of reading

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?
    >twilight yes; not yet

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?
    >yes. because us boyfriends are forced to watch it by our girlfriends. LOL. and no single STRAIGHT guy in his right mind would watch it alone. hope this helps, addict. haha

Will update ya once I get the others’ response..=)

  • Amanda Says:

i have a male friend who has read the series and he like it up to the last book

but oh well at least he read it right

  • afterglow18 Says:

Well, my little bro of 24 is putting his best effort to finish reading New Moon. It’s been 5 months and he still hasn’t finished it yet..
But the funniest thing is, everytime he travels out of town for work, he chooses to bring NM book with him instead of Holy Bible LOL..

  • daka Says:

My colleague, a young father watched the movie first. Once he saw me reading Breaking Dawn and we chatted away about the twilight movie. Then he asked me for the first book and now he has finished New Moon. Actually I think, Book 2,3,4 could appeal to guys since there are quite a few good fight scenes. As for Chinese male readers, they have a special interest in martial art stories, and Twilight Saga has many stunning fights just like those in many of the martial art novels we have here in China.

  • Margaret Says:

my brother (15) read them heres what he said:

How did you learn of the Twilight series?
i learned that vampires are freaks

What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?
i was bored and there was nothing else to read

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?

    yes and yes

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?

    okay sure.

  • Alton de Jesus Says:

    Hi i am Alton, a Filipino.. male..17 years old…
i’ve read and reread and reread the Saga a lot of times already..

i’ve learned of the series when the movie was up… i started reading last January 2009.. and i have read the whole saga including the unpublished and unfinished Midnight Sun by April, and by that time, i have read the 5 books at least twice.. by may, i have read everything 4 times.

    My reasons were
    1. learning of the female perspective of the book.
    2. the story itself, because i was curious of the real story beyond the movie.

i don’t think so.. unless the guys purposely want to read them… i for instance was out of the reasons abvove.. i haven’t learned of the series before the movie so it means that it basically struck femaLES ONLY

  • Bobby Says:

I am a 29 year old male, and I have read all the books in the Twilight series and would be up for an interview. If there is more questions, you can ask me anything.

How did you learn of the Twilight series? My friend Tonya

What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)? Something to do, and I loved the movie, but fell in love with the book more.

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books? I read all the books, and with the help of book on C.D. while i was working so I could finish, I couldn’t stop, it was addictive.

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market? It is possible, I loved it

  • James Innes Says:

I, myself being male have read the books and feel that it is things like this that stop more boys from reading the books, your labeling them as girl books is what drives boys away from reading them!

How did you learn of the Twilight series?

    From female friends

What made you read the book/s (e.g. curiosity, to learn how women think, etc.)?

I was bought them for christmas as I enjoy reading, as I have said before they are just books!

Were you able to finish Twilight? Have you read all the books?

what makes you think I would be unable to finish Twilight, yes I have and I am in the final chapters of Breaking Dawn

Do you think the Twilight series can also appeal to the male market?

Yes, If people stopped labeling the books as girls books, its things like this that put boys off reading at all.

  • Stephanie Says:

My husband Josh has read these books. Now he didnt read Twilight because he felt it would be irrelevant as he had already seen the movie with me. He started reading them three weeks ago. One night we were watching Twilight…again…and he said hand me the second book. You have talked so much about them and I am curious. So I handed it over and he read it over the next two and a half days. He said it was good and then he wanted Eclipse, which is my fave of the four. He read it in two days also and liked it better than New Moon as there was more action in it. I handed him Breaking Dawn even though I wasn’t done reading it…for the eighth time…and read it over three days. He liked Eclipse better than the others but he did enjoy the New Moon movie.

He did say that he probably wouldn’t have read them if we weren’t Twilight fanatics in the house…we have two daughters, 10 and 6, who are fans of the movies…he said there was too much romance, not enough action but the humor was good.

Hope that helps. You have my email address if you have any further questions for me or him.

  • twilight Says:

Thank you very much for answering the questions everybody! It was so interesting to read your experiences and thoughts! :D

  • Austin/Male reader Says:

First off, I am a straight 14 year old male who fell in love with the story. I found out about it by watching it in the theatre. I decided to read the book because all of my female friends were crazy about it. :) .

I finished twilight and the rest of the nooks in 4 days. I loved each of them equally, I look at them as all one large story combined, so I love them all equally.

What is different with males like myself, I fell in love with bella. I love to read about her because I feal like I’m Edward kissing her or holding my hand. I wish there was a bella for me in real life. ;)

I will read midnight sun but I won’t enjoy it as much because my bella won’t be the main character.

None of my friends know I have read the books. I would get picked on like the rest of the male readers in my school.

    Hope this helps :D
