A Twilight Kiss

Alexis Tereszcuk of RadarOnline.com asked me via email if there were some questions I wanted to ask Justin Chon, the Twilight actor playing Eric Yorke in The Twilight Saga. In Part 2 of her video interview, a couple of the eight questions that I sent her popped out.

So, one of the things that really drive the popularity of the [Twilight] movies are the Twilight fan sites, and, we are good friends with ATwilightKiss. (Justin Chon greets ATK.) And, their question for you is how does your role in Crossing Over differ from Twilight? (go to 2:01)

They are absolutely completely different roles. [In] Crossing Over, I played a Korean American immigrant kid having a tough time adjusting to life in LA, and, he ends up hanging with the wrong crowd and causing a lot of trouble. You know, he has a very thick accent and it’s very much a dramatic piece.

[In] Twilight, my character is a lot more light and carefree, and, not an immigrant. And he lives in a town where there’s only white people. (laughter)

How did that make you feel?

I was in a sea of white, and, I just felt like a drop of p—s in an Everest of snow. (laughter) I really appreciate [it] when people, especially for something like Twilight, take a risk and think outside the box, because, my role in Twilight is not written as an Asian. So I really applauded the whole production company for taking that risk.

Here’s is the full list of questions that I emailed Alexis.

1. Since you’re on a band, did you ever get to jam with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on the set? Which songs did you cover?

2. Are you one of the Twilight actors Catherine Hardwicke was referring to who auditioned for her Hamlet inspired film?

3. Did you and Anna Kendrick ever discuss the New Moon script that was found in the trash bin near the hotel where she was staying? Was it hers? So what really happened? (I would really love to know this!)

4. In what ways has Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, etc. changed with all the attention heaped on them? Personally, do you think you’re ready for that level of fame, or would you rather be more low key?

5. What do you think of Prop 8?

6. Which of your films will be released this year? Which character are you most excited about since it’s so different from Eric in Twilight?

7. When making your film schedule, is Twilight at the top of the list? Like schedule Twilight first, and then everything falls into 2nd, 3rd, etc? Does Summit let you know months beforehand re the schedule? (slight reference to the Rachelle Lefevre incident)

8. Do you feel that as an Asian American actor there are more challenges facing you with regards to casting? Were you ever told that you didn’t get a part because of your particular looks?
